Located on the Île de Nantes on the banks of the Loire river, the “Habiter les quais” project [Quayside Living] is part of Alexandre Chemetoff’s layout plan.
Three high-rise buildings on a sanded concrete base stand out against Jean Nouvel’s Law Courts in the background. These three blocks of 18 flats are staggered so as to create views and ensure the facades receive maximum sunlight. To the south, a block of 19 council flats vertically “prolongs” the base, which houses the car park in its depths. The ground levels are occupied by offices and activities on the street side and a brasserie on the Loire quayside. To the east, 4 duplex town houses with sun terraces overlook the public square.
All the apartments for sale face in two or frequently three different directions. The corners are entirely made of glass and the living rooms feature large sliding doors that open out onto huge cantilever terraces overlooking the Loire.
The council flats are mostly walk-through and enjoy either a private terrace for those at garden level, a double-height ceiling in the living room, or a sun terrace for those on the top floor.
The buildings are clad in matt aluminium and stand in a landscape garden that combines raw slate and a variety of wild and rare plants.
