The project is located on a plot in the Plaine des Villes ZAC in the south-west of the St. Brieux agglomeration. It is comprised of three office blocks that revolve around a pivotal circular hub by means of connecting volumes. These and the three office wings have gently sloping roofs equipped with solar chimneys fitted with photovoltaic cells on the sides facing the sun.
The façades of the central rotunda are also glazed. Wooden slats on the top level ensure the solar protection of the premises. In the middle, the roof makes way for a patio.
The project’s environmentally friendly design is expressed by the systems that compose it: the roof has three large solar chimneys that work by using the heat of the sun to create an updraft and ensure natural ventilation of the premises and cooling at night. Modelling the chimneys enabled us to develop a maximum surface exposure to the sun, thus guaranteeing the best updraft. Rainwater is collected on the roof is poured into pool-planters that ensure grey water filtering. In this way, passive contributions, protection systems and water recycling are all highlighted and understood through their architectural expression.
