Nicolas Michelin, architect and urban planner, was born in Paris in 1955. He created the ANMA practice in 2001 with Michel Delplace and Cyril Trétout after working in partnership with Finn Geipel as LABFAC in the 1990s. Alongside his work as an architect, Nicolas Michelin was director of the Rueil-Malmaison Art School and Contemporary Art Centre from 1985 to 2000 and of the Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Architecture in Versailles from 2000 to 2009, where he set up the "La Maréchalerie" Art Centre. He was nominated for the Grand Prix d’Urbanisme in 2005, 2007, 2008 and 2009.
He has written several publications: Nouveau Paris, la ville et ses possibles, the catalogue of the exhibition at the Pavillon de l’Arsenal in Paris in 2005, for which he was the scientific curator; Avis, propos sur l’architecture, la ville, l’environnement, published in 2006; L’Aventure de la transformation d’une halle, des farines à l’université in 2007; and Five by Five in 2008, a book that features 5 of ANMA’s architectural projects and 5 of their urban planning projects. He was chief curator of the 2008 edition of the Bordeaux Agora Biennial of Architecture and Urban Design, “Alerte”, which covered the interconnecting themes of architecture, urban planning and sustainable development. Alongside this event, he published Alerte ! Et si on pensait un peu plus à elle?.
